  • "Abbey Lee manages to do the near impossible, straddling the worlds of Hollywood and fashion, moving between the two seamlessly. I first saw Abbey Lee on a Vogue cover and shortly after in a leading role alongside Gerard Butler. We shot this portrait session together in my 'home' Pier 59 Studios in New York and I have rarely photographed anyone who has such a natural understanding of figurative form. I chose this photograph to be the cover of my 2014 publication 'Angels' because it was a perfect balance of shape, provocation and her breathtaking beauty"- RUSSELL JAMES


  • At the heart of James’ Angels series are collaborations with many of the most iconic models of our time. The underlying premise is the impact and beauty of the figurative form in all its expressions, a shared part of the human experience. James says,

    “I often refer to this as my Trust series. It’s such a privilege that so many amazing people have entrusted me to capture such personal and intimate portraits. It’s partnership at its best.”

    There are two published books dedicated to this series: Angels (2014) and Angels Limited Edition (2018).
